TUESDAY

It is hard to believe that it is already April! It seems like suddenly spring has arrived and we are on the way to warmer and longer days!
This is a busy week at school, as report cards went home and we get prepared for parent- teacher interviews on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

For the second interviews of this year, I like to have parents and students at the interview. Your child has worked very hard this year, and we have collected various tests, writing pieces and work to show you. This interview is all about progress, and your child will actually be leading part of the interview, showing how far they have come. Also, this interview is about further progress for the remaining third of the year. I think it is important for students to celebrate their successes and also to evaluate where they should be headed for the rest of the year. I am looking forward to seeing you on the night you have scheduled, but if you have any specific questions or concerns that you would like me to address, please email me a day or two earlier, so that I can have everything organized and answers for you when you come!  (carrie.timm@spiritsd.ca)

We are holding our very first VCA Art Show in the Mini Gym on April 6th & 7th (Wednesday and Thursday nights), for students to exhibit some of the art work they have done this year. Please come in and enjoy the incredible talent we have at VCA!

See you soon!

SPRING?

It seems too good to be true, but I think spring is on the way! What a lovely day we have had today. Our Winterfest is planned once again for this Friday afternoon, with HOPES of no -44 weather to interupt again!
Our Chapel last Wednesday was a wonderful success, and all the credit goes to our actors, narrators, singers and verse leaders who studied their parts and did so well! Thank you!!

We have wrapped up our unit on the Tabernacle in Christian Ethics with fabulous models made by our class. We have a test coming up in the next week or two.
This week, our big push is to study for our social studies exam on Friday.  We have been learning all about our Provincial Government, how it is formed and what it does. It is exciting, since we may soon be having an election for real!

WEDNESDAY

Wow - winter is certainly not over, despite the lovely week we've had. As I look outside, the cars are completely covered in snow again! Hopefully it will warm enough for us to have our Winter Festival on Friday - we will decide tomorrow after school. Thanks to Mrs Frederick for volunteering to help our class.

We have had a wonderful couple weeks at school, and we have worked very hard to finish off our science unit, math unit and health units. Our new unit in math is fractions & decimals, and so far, students are ROCKING!  Hopefully the rest of the unit goes this smoothly. We are wrapping up our social unit on Decision Making in Saskatchewan. We have learned a bunch of new words like "constituency, Members of the Legislative Assembly, candidate and nominated."  We will be having a mock debate soon in our class.  In health we are wrapping up the unit on sight and hearing, and will begin talking about self esteem. This unit will tie in with our Christian Ethics theme of looking at how God created us uniquely.
Finally, we have been working at getting our drama done for art. This is part of English Language Arts unit about sending a message, and our message is about how God calls us to be loving and kind to others, not bullies. All parents are welcome to come to our drama production (which will be during our chapel time on March 9th).

Blessings to you and your family as you enjoy being together on Family Day on Monday, and the week off for the kids.

WELCOME TO FEBRUARY!

What a start to the month with a snow day yesterday! I hope those of you who didn't make it had a wonderful day. We had half the class here, and we had a great time together.

We have started our new Social Studies unit on Decision Making in our Province, and it has been a very fun couple classes. We had some very persuasive debates today, and I look forward to seeing students expressing their opinions.

We have our big verses quiz (all six of the previous verses) and spelling test tomorrow (since there is no school on Friday). Tomorrow is also "Caps for Cambodia" - a fund raising venture from the grade 1 class to help a school in Cambodia. The "fine" for wearing your hat tomorrow is $1.  What a great cause!

A beautiful day

Wow! What a wonderful day! Recess and lunch hours were a hive of activity out there! It is nice after such a cold snap. This is a busy week, with Friday being a holiday for the kids, it feels like we're trying to pack eveyrthing in, but we're having some fun too! It is milk week, and we are really pushing drinking milk as a healthy choice.
We have a science test on Thursday, which students are working hard to study for, as well as nailing our multiplication and division facts. I have sent home a box of division flash cards which I would like students to practise every day for the next 2 and a half weeks. Most kids are catching on, but definately need some practise.

TIME IS FLYING!

I can't believe we're at January 18th already! We have been sailing through our light and optics unit, and I expect us to be done in the next week! We have learned a lot about the light spectrum, shadows, how light moves through different objects, and reflection & refraction. I am amazed at the excellent work students have been doing.
We also got started with our drama, called "Bugbeat", which is all about bullying. We are planning on performing it at our chapel on March 9th.

WHAT A CHILLY DAY!

Wow - it was cold out there today! -34 with windchill at lunch! Glad we have somewhere warm to stay.Today was a very exciting day as we watched the senior girls and boys soccer recieved the bronze medal, and the boys also got the sportsmanship award. Way to go!
We are really promoting drinking milk as part of our healthy eating program, so we are making it more convenient to buy milk by purchasing a milk card or cash as the milk cart goes from room to room. The cost is 75 cents per milk (chocolate or white). You may also purchase a milk card at any time throughout the year. One milk card is $15 which gives you 20 milk cartons of your choice. Drink milk and support the Jr. SRC!

We're already at Wednesday, and  it feels like we never left! I am proud of how hard students are working and getting back into the rhythm of the school day.
Today we worked a little more on our Math unit on Multiplication, and finished off our similies stories for ELA. I am blown away by how creative and funny our little books are! Way to go, grade 4!!
This afternoon we did some experimentation with light and shadows and learned the difference between transparent (see through), translucent (somewhat see -through) and opaque (not see through). We are having a lot of fun with it!
